The Petites Pierres series is meant to support you with first steps: big decisions, new directions, changes of season.
When you’re heading into the unknown, laying plans for a new chapter, about to embark on an exciting experiment, remember that small is powerful- first steps are huge no matter the size, and with enough small steps entire worlds can be supported.
The Petites Pierres series is comprised of handmade postconsumer single-use plastic waste oval cabochon gems. These oval cabochons are the first gem shape Jeanne Marie successfully created using her very own hand-fabricated mold technique, becoming a foundation of her recycled plastic gem creation process.
Playing on the meaning of Pierre (stone in French) these lovely oval cabochons are not true gemstones rather they are steppingstones, corner stones, and foundation stones. Showing that stones need not be large to be foundational, they can be petites (small in French).
Pierre is also the name of Jeanne Marie’s father who is an inquisitive engineer, scientist, naturalist, inventor, and artist. Taking after her father and expressing her own avid curiosity, inventiveness, sense of engineering, and art in this project, Jeanne Marie is herself a “Petite Pierre.”Each gem is hand crafted from the plastic waste pictured
